La Paz Waterfall Garden and Butterfly Observatory

One of the first tourist activities I enjoyed in Costa Rica was a visit to the La Paz Waterfall Garden and Butterfly Observatory, which is a 45 minute drive from the airport in Alajuela. There are two miles of walking trails, and impressive waterfall, enclosed butterfly observatory, and hummingbird bird garden.
At the time I didn’t have a video camera, however the above video by Jenn gives you a glimpse of the hummingbirds.
The price of admission is about $30, however you can book a tour package with ground transportation and a guide just about anywhere in Costa Rica. At the time my package also included a visit to the Poas Volcano, and a working coffee plantation in the area. Although not as exciting as white water rafting it makes for a pleasant afternoon.
