Independence Day Celebration on Sunday
The American Colony Club will host the annual Fourth of July Picnic on Sunday at the Cervercería de Costa Rica picnic grounds off the Autopista General Cañas. This is the 50th anniversary of the event open to United States citizens and their family. Admission is c2,500 or $5 for adults and children under five get in free.
The American Colony Committee was formed to promote the civic observance of the United States of America’s Independence Day and its history and traditions, and what better way to accomplish this than a traditional 4th of July picnic?
The highlight of the picnic is a flag ceremony performed by the U.S. Marine Corps, and the event is perhaps one of the few opportunities for expatriate children in Costa Rica to experience a formal observance of patriotic expression.
A history of the event along small photo gallery are available on the Colony Club Website, however the map leaves quite a bit to be desired, especially if you are unfamiliar to the area.

Thanks for the great Google map – we've added a link to it on the American Colony site. La Nacion also has an interactive map which can show routes to take from anywhere in the country, although it's a bit challenging to use. The Autopista exits to the Cervecería exits are shown here: http://bit.ly/cqt5lA. For a route map, at the top left of the page click on "comó llegar" and enter your town first and, for the destination, enter "Cerveceria De Costa Rica Heredia" – then make sure the result is set to "map" rather than "satellite".
