Jazz Cafe in San Pedro Longtime Favorite
The Jazz Cafe has for a decade been a popular night spot on the east side of San Jose in San Pedro. The location, when coming from downtown is just before the San Pedro Mall and taxi fare usually runs under $4. There is another location in the western suburb of Escazu, however San Pedro is also home to the hip young crowd at the University of Costa Rica.
The cover charge is between c3,000 and c6,000, and weekends tend to draw a crowd. The above video is from a Thursday evening when all the acts were in an English language jazz genre. Many features are not jazz, so its a good idea to check the the Jazz Cafe Agenda. Performances usually start at 9pm, however it doesn’t hurt to arrive early, especially on the weekend.
The food is well prepared, portions are generous but a little pricey by local standards. Don’t be shy about ordering drinks because the waiters are not always so vigilant once the music starts.
