14 baby sharks rescued in the Gulf of Nicoya

A Coast Guard patrol boat was in a sector of the Gulf of Nicoya known as Bajo Abangares when they spotted several illegally placed nets. As a result, fourteen baby sharks were rescued.

Areas such as Colorado and Tortuguero in Limon are currently under surveillance.

Fishing is prohibited until August, 31st in Guanacaste and Chira Island.

To avoid poverty, the government pays the 423 fishermen in these areas 145,000 colones per month.
