This weekend, the organization Animal Rescue Zooave released 16 red macaws in the Nicoya Peninsula, which were born thanks to the work done at the Center for Reproduction of Endangered Animals.

The objective is the reintroduction of this species in the area, since its populations had decreased considerably,”

said Magali Quesada, deputy director of Zooave.

The release was made specifically at Pilas de Canjel, where the Bosque Escondido Wildlife Refuge is located, where protected species are kept.

In this Center, Zooave is responsible for reproducing animals that due to different reasons are in danger of disappearing. Then their offspring are released under certain control measures, in order to ensure their well-being.

The event was attended by officials from the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE).
