17 recommendations to prevent ashes from affecting you

In response to the constant activity of Poás and Turrialba volcanoes in Alajuela and Cartago, respectively, the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) called on the population to protect themselves and prevent ash from affecting them.

Recommendations:

-Avoid outdoor activities.
-Remember that the most vulnerable people are those who have asthma or suffer from bronchitis.
-In case of contact or irritation in your eyes, do not rub them, wash them with plenty of water.
-Wear eyeglasses to protect your eyes, especially if you wear contact lenses.
-If you have to, cover your nose and mouth with a tissue.
-Wear wide-brimmed hats and long-sleeved shirts.
-Do not eat food on the street.
When you get home, shake your clothes and wash them well.
-Maintain personal hygiene.
-Cover containers with water.
-Do not forget to wash the vegetables and fruits to remove the ash.
-Keep the drainage system clean.
-Close doors and windows and place towels or damp cloths in the cracks.
-Protect electronic equipment.
-Clean children’s toys.
-Do not let your children play with ash.
-Keep at hand the medications you take daily, bottled water and clothing for at least three days.
