2018 figures: 32 tons of confiscated cocaine and 146 disarticulated gangs

Last year, the police authorities of the Ministry of Public Security managed to exceed the record in terms of drug seizures and disarticulation of criminal structures.

From January 1st, 2006 to December 27th, 2018, the Drug Control Police (PCD) dismantled 1,436 organizations: 291 of these were international and 1,145 were local, with 373 defined as family structures.

In addition, so far in 2018, the PCD dismantled 146 gangs, of which 41 were international trafficking structures and 105 were local. In that same period, they confiscated 97 firearms, 128 vehicles, ₡83.6 million $3.74 million and €38,615.

According to Michael Soto, Minister of Public Security, the overall figure of 2018 amounts to 32 tons and a half of confiscated cocaine in actions where all the police authorities of the country participated. Six tons of marijuana were also confiscated.
