230 Clinics online with digital records

Diario Extra

At present, 1.4 million individuals, covered by state medical care (CCSS) are online with a digital record system, called Expediente Digital Único en Salud (Edus). The system, maintained under contract with the state telecom (ICE) is not yet fully digital. Much of medical records are still maintained on paper, but the system tracks the paper records, controls appointments and account information. The change make it possible for clinics to verify coverage and eliminates the need to ask for a recent orden patronal or receipt for seguro voluntario. Edus comes at a cost of $60 million, and the contract runs through 2016.
