2,500 debtors from Bancrédito now belong to Banco Popular

Some 2,500 Bancrédito debtors -which represent about three thousand loans- will have their loan operation in Banco Popular from Wednesday on.

The information was supplied by the second bank through its communication office.

The entity denied that the negotiation of this sale was linked to the executive bill that transfers resources managed by Banco Popular to the Costa Rican Development Bank, an entity that would be created from the remains of the current Bancrédito.

This month, Bancrédito tried to finish distributing the resources that its clients maintained in checking and savings accounts. It will also continue the process of selling credit portfolios. In May, the total credit portfolio was ¢363 billion.

Both tasks will help the bank finish getting rid of its financial intermediation operations.

Last week, the government presented a bill to allow Bancrédito to eventually take on new roles.

The absorption of the National Loan Commission for Education (CONAPE) and the management of resources for enterprises are in the proposed plan.
