25,000 teachers are out of work and will not be named to positions in academic year 2014

About 25 thousand educators can not be named for 2014 because they are not in the list of eligible Civil Service. Archive.

Last Monday began the 2014 school year, and while the Ministry of Public Education (MEP) still needs to appoint some teachers to interim positions in schools across the country, there are 25,000 teachers out of work. The group will remain out of work because their names do not appear on a list of candidates who are eligible to teach in public schools.

Representatives of a teachers union say the problem will only get worse as universities continue to graduate educators despite a lack of demand in the labor market for public school teachers.

This year 940,700 students will attend 5,191 public schools nationwide.
