48 companies saved ¢ 2,170 million in water and electricity

Forty-eight companies in Costa Rica were awarded the Ecological Blue Flag in the category of climate change for their policies to reduce the environmental impact that allowed them to save ¢2,170 million in 2016.

That amount saved is divided between water, electricity, fuel and paper. It even represents the gasoline expense of 1,087 vehicles in a year, and electricity generated by 22,973 personal computers, also in 12 months.

Achieving this recognition implied adhering to 10 different parameters that would help to reduce the impact on the environment, such as wastewater treatment, sustainable purchases and waste management.

Among the winning companies are the National Bank, the BTC Bank, the ICE Group or the National Insurance Institute.
