500 children are in the need of people with a sense of solidarity for Christmas. Costa Rica’s Smiles of Hope Association (SDE) is looking for people who want to donate gifts or nonperishable food to children who live in marginalized areas.

José Granados, a member of SDE’s board explained that this is a non-profit organization which has been working for 5 years to help smaller organizations. At this time around 5,000 children have been helped.

We are dedicated to try and get food and toys for children during Christmas (…) around Turrialba, Guanacaste, Cartago, Zona Norte, in the southern suburbs,”

said Granados.

This year the idea is to help 500 children between 0 and 12 years old.

Who helps us? The volunteers who contact us through the website, our email and our partners,“

explained José Granados.

Children from Cuadros de Purral in San José, 27 de Abril, Jicaral and Coyote beach in Guanacaste, will be the beneficiaries this year.

The Association asks for non-warlike toys and not very high-tech gifts, because the families are poor and batteries could be very expensive in their remote areas.

Collaborations will be received until December 10th. Contact them to asociacionsonrisasdeesperanza@gmail.com or through their Facebook page.
