55 percent of companies owe corporate taxes

55 percent of companies owed corporate taxes since 2012, according to a report by the General Comptroller office.

The most conservative figures estimate the corporate taxes debt at 37 billion colones, owed by 365,482 companies.

In 2015, companies tax delinquencies increased by 65.5 percent. The Comptroller’s report attributes this spike to a constitutional challenge against the tax code.

All companies registered in the National Register must pay the corporate tax from February 1. However, since 2012, this tax delinquency has grown at a rate of 11.3% per year.

The debtor companies will be subjected to an administrative debt collection and if still refuse to pay they will face a judicial debt collection.
