6.1-degree earthquake in Nicaragua shook the North Zone

A 6.1- degree earthquake reported in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua, shook the Northern Zone of the national territory on Tuesday morning and was reported in several parts of the country.

According to the report of the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI), the epicenter was located 78 kilometers southwest of San Juan del Sur in Nicaragua.

Residents of Sarapiquí, La Sabana, Puntarenas, Playas del Coco, Carrillo, Alajuela, San Ramón, and Heredia reported having felt a very strong quake. Important aftershocks took place in Nicaraguan territory.
