80 people affected after landslide in Los Guido de Desamparados

Eighty people were affected after a landslide that occurred on Wednesday afternoon in Sector 8 of Los Guido in Desamparados.

Gilbert Jiménez, Mayor of the canton, said that this sector was a landfill that was covered with vegetation and several people settled there in humble houses. However, due to heavy downpours and accumulation of water, the land gave in and a house was brought down and another 11 suffered serious damages, with a total of 12 families affected.

We managed to evacuate 12 families on the recommendation of the Red Cross and they were taken to homes of relatives and friends. We enable the communal room of Sector 2 of Los Guido as a shelter in case any family needs it too. They were helped to take out the emergency items, utensils and other things they needed and will be taking some supplies,”

said Jiménez.

A security ring was set up in the so that nobody is in danger of falling. However, a geologist from the National Emergency Commission (CNE) conducts an inspection to determine the damage and the action plan.

The Ministry of Health will also arrive this morning to make a full assessment and determine the corresponding actions,”

said Jiménez.
