80 thousand Costa Rican homes joined “Earth Hour”

A total of 80 thousand homes joined the global campaign “Earth Hour” in Costa Rican territory.

Data from the National Center for Energy Control (CENCE) indicate that between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, 32 thousand kilowatts were saved in the country.

The initiative seeks to give a break to the planet and it’s celebrated the last Saturday of March. As explained by Salvador López, director of CENCE, Costa Rica is an example worldwide as it practically produces 99% of electricity with renewable sources.

López also said the savings achieved are pretty good.

The “Earth Hour” is celebrated in the main capitals of the world in search of a commitment to the environment. In Costa Rica the main celebration took place in Escazú.
