A Colombian allegedlly headed the gang formed by 9 policemen

A Colombian citizen identified as Castro Paz allegedly headed the criminal gang composed by nine policemen, according to the judicial investigation police (OIJ for its acronym in Spanish).

The alleged ringleader has not yet been arrested and authorities remain alert at borders to prevent him escaping the country.

The fugitive has a criminal record for international drug trafficking and has 30 years living in Costa Rica.

The detained officers are linked to 10 cases of theft houses. The first burglaries were reported in July 2015. In the raids that led to detentions, were seized about 12 million colones, $ 7,500 in cash, cell phones, and documents.

The way the policemen allegedly robbed the houses was by simulating a police operative in the area, so as not to raise suspicion among neighbors.

A policeman surnamed Lopez allegedly planned the burglaries with Castro Paz. The agent is 27 years and worked in the Hospital district. Since the year 2010 he has been a policeman. In addition, four other persons belonged to the gang.
