American Expatriate Costa Rica

A Costa Rican documentary about Central American migration will be premiered on March 30th

A Costa Rican documentary that addresses the issue of Central American migration will be premiered on March 30th at Magaly cinema, in San José, at 6pm. It is free and the mall can accept up to 500 people.

“Casa de Tierra Ajena” documentary tells several people’s stories and dreams. They are the protagonists of forced migration processes in Central America. In addition, the film also recovers the voices of those who have stayed in their countries resisting and transforming their realities.

The project comes from “No More Walls, Forced Migration in Central America” book, written by Carlos Sandoval García, Professor Humboldt 2017, and published by University of Costa Rica Publish House.

This 80-minute documentary is a co-production between the State Distance University (UNED) and the UCR and it was financed by the National Council of Chancellors (CONARE).

“Casa de Tierra Ajena” is built on three questions: Why do Central American people continue to go to the United States if it is increasingly dangerous to cross the border? Why has migration policy been so hardened and now there are more and more obstacles to migrate? why are the most humble people the most caring ones, both in Mexico and in the United States?

Costa Rica has historically been a hosting country and it has to continue being a peace space for migrants and it has to maintain its humanitarian policy.

To achieve what was explained by its director, the production team started working in 2015, it visited five countries, 35 locations and  it traveled 4,200 kilometers.
