A Costa Rican student won a internship in America!

Cindy Rucabado’s dream is still alive: she wants to be a nurse, now more than ever since she was chosen for a scholarship that will allow her to do an internship in the United States.

To get there, she had to overcome a series of obstacles. Since she was a child, she fell in love with nursing. Her father suffered from an illness and she witnessed how he was nursed. That was the reason why she started loving the profession that she decided to study.

However, after finishing school, Cindy was forced to work because her money was needed at home and her goal of studying nursing seemed distant. For economic reasons, she could not enter the university so she started working.

She worked at the airport, in call centers, and even served as a secretary in a hospital where she made appointments for up to 12 hours. When she could, she began to study a subject for a semester at the University of Ibero-America until CONAPE offered her a loan and she could pay the university center.

It is a great achievement because I never thought I would have an opportunity like this and I am proud because I will be part of such an amazing field. I hope to expand my knowledge since it is something that I love,

declared the student.

She and 4 other Unibe students will benefit from the “100,000 Strong in the Americas” award, which consists of a private public collaboration of the White House, the US Department of State and other entities.
