A customs official from the port of Rotterdam, the Netherlands, was accused of apparently allowing the entry of containers with cocaine. Among them, there was one from Costa Rica.
The subject, known as Gerrit G., is linked to 300 kilos of cocaine hidden in a traveling container of Costa Rican pineapple. The fact dates back to December 2013.
The 54-year-old suspect systematically allowed the entry of containers full of drugs in the port of Rotterdam in exchange of great sums of money. Another subject, identified as Van den B., from Rotterdam, is suspected of money laundering and weapons possession,
informed the Dutch news site NL Times.
Dutch prosecutors requested 16 years in prison against Gerrit G. In addition, during the raids, police found 1.1 million euros in cash at his house.
The official had a luxurious lifestyle that did not fit his salary. He benefited from corruption and ended up in the criminal world,
stated a report from the Dutch prosecutor’s office.
According to the press, although the suspect had precautionary measures, an apparent violation of the agreement forced his arrest.
Drug shipments between Costa Rica and Rotterdam are not new. On November 21st, 2013, CRHoy.com reported the seizure of 100 kilos of cocaine in pineapple juice containers.
