A legislator aim to revert PANI’s cutbacks

A writ of protection was presented by legislator Humberto Vargas to try to revert the budget cutbacks to the National Children ‘s Trust (PANI).

The reduction, approved in mid-October by the Committee on Financial Affairs fro the Legislative Assembly, would mean a decrease of 25 billion colones in PANI’s budget.

The legislator declared that those who approved the cutbacks were not in charge of that as the Supreme Court ratified the obligation to turn 7% of the proceeds from the sales tax to PANI. Vargas stated that the decision puts the welfare of Costa Rican children at risk.

The Ombudsman’s National Child’s Welfare Agency was unhappy with the cutback.
