A man stated that his partner wasn’t assisted for not having insurance

Carlos Artavia assures that he went to the Jiménez Núñez Clinic with his partner Miguel: he needed medical care because he felt he was drowning. Miguel’s health has been affected, with an apparent respiratory infection, but, as he denounced, he was not assisted.

According to Carlos, his partner is asthmatic, epileptic and the infection continues, but he was told that it was not an emergency and he didn’t have insurance.

He added that it is not the first time he goes to that medical center and despite not having insurance, what he lived is nothing but a violation of the right to health.

Apparently, Miguel has no insurance due to a problem with the company for which he worked.

As he told, they ended up in a private pharmacy, where the person in charge informed that he needed antibiotic for the infection but, without a prescription, it could not be sold.

However, Jairo Artavia, head of emergencies at the hospital, said via email that the man was treated: he was assisted at 10:03 am, his vital signs were normal and it wasn’t a qualified emergency.

Artavia also indicated that the patient was invited to go to service affiliation if he wanted to do any paperwork for insurance, because if a person wants to be assisted in the emergency department, that person must pay in advance, as established by the current regulations.
