A woman is angry: people are abandoning their dogs

Only in July, 3 dogs were abandoned on the campus of the National University (UNA) in Heredia. As a result, María José Vargas is angry.

Since she was a student, she took care and fed street dogs that were in the university. She graduated 3 years ago and she keeps doing it: from Monday to Monday, she is the only one that feeds them, look after them and gives them love. She loves what she does but abandoning 3 dogs in just one month made her mad.

It’s something I was born with. I love them, they are humble and they are the best companion, but 3 abandoned dogs in a month infuriated me,

stated Vargas.

She receives monetary help and food, but it is not a fixed income and now people abandoned three more dogs.´

In early June someone abandoned Julio Alberto, as it was named, inside a closed briefcase in the University. It was left at night and found by an officer. Julio Alberto is a French Poodle and it is about 5 years old.

Its claws were so long that he could not touch the ground, it was full of fleas, it was blind and just the fact that it was abandoned inside a briefcase surprised me,

explained Vargas.

Then, a 6-month puppy was found in a bathroom and an old Schnauzer was found in the campus. It was probably abandoned because it was old and was not longer useful.

The old dog found a home and the puppy is in adoption.

She wants to help them all, but people forget she has a family, friends and responsibilities and she can’t do it alone. She is grateful for all the help she receives, though.

Only in the campus there are 4 dogs and a cat: Kyra, Milo, Chato, James and Poseidón.

In addition, there is a dog in the area of Veterinarian Medicine, one in Social Studies, one in Santa Lucía and 3 more in Publications. María José urges people to be more aware.
