The passenger always remained conscious. | MAYELA LOPEZ

A woman traveling in the front passenger seat remained trapped for 35 minutes after a collision with a train, last night in Calle Blancos. Witnesses say the driver of the vehicle tried to pass and get ahead of the train, but his 2002 Toyota Rav4 became pinned by the train and dragged for 40 meters. Rescuers say the woman suffered hip and femur injuries, and was transferred to the Hospital Calderón Guardia.

Accidents between commuter trains and vehicles have been a frequent problem in the central valley as multiple train lines have been added without any type of barriers, bridges or raised platforms.
