According to a study, the Government has little capacity to solve problems

The recent report from Conjuncture Analysis Program, from the School of Sociology at the National University (UNA), stated that unemployment and public security are the most problematic issues for Luis Guillermo Solís’  government and they show the limited capacity of the current administration to resolve conflicts.

Carlos Carranza, program coordinator, expressed that the drug problem must be addressed as soon as possible and even though he highlighted the agreement between the governments of the United States and Costa Rica to work on the issue, he said that it is not enough.

Violence does not end. We are witnesses of what is happening in Limón but these are problems that take place cyclically,

declared Carranza.

Regarding the infrastructure problem, he pointed out that although the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT) conducted some changes, the deficit in this matter has not been solved and its consequences are to be experienced until 2019 and even beyond.

He also said that the International trade and policies need a strengthening as the Ministry of Commerce (COMEX) is required to have a greater presence and economic capacity.

Our presence at the United Nations was positive, the president’s speech was interesting but it would have been more appropriate to have a formal statement from the Foreign Ministry and a better way to address the issue,

declared Carranza.

There is not a homogeneous policy for a comprehensive state reform. They have discussed issues of public employment but they have done nothing. This government has gaps in this area, as told by the analyst.

He recognised that the government has made positive reforms on education, but there is an issue that is crucial and is the Dual Education.

The Government has not made progress in its decision-making.

There are issues such as the tax reform that should be resolved and they haven’t. It is necessary to reach agreements with the political actors because next year we’ll have an election year and the strengthening of the Country’s governance has to be achieved,

concluded Carranza.
