Accumulated inflation reached 1.93% in October

The accumulated inflation between January and October this year amounted to 1.93% , according to the variation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI), calculated by the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC).

Of the 315 goods and services that make up the consumer basket, 45% increased in price, 38% decreased in price and 17% did not change.

During the tenth month of the year, compared to September, there was a variation of 0.56%.

In October, the goods and services that showed the greatest positive effect were: water service, gasoline and electricity service. On the other hand, automobiles, soft drinks and pineapple were among the main products with the greatest negative effect.

When analyzing the percentage changes in the prices of the twelve groups that make up the index, the group Rent and services of housing is the one that has the greatest effect on the variation of the general index.

During the last five years the only positive monthly variation was registered in 2017 (0.56%).

In October of the last 10 years, the highest year-on-year percentage variation occurred in 2008 with 16.30%; while 2015 saw the only negative year-on-year change (-0.86%).
