Accumulative inflation reached 0.92% in the first five months

Accumulative inflation for the period from January to May this year reached 0.92%, according to data provided by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC) on Wednesday morning.

Variations in the general level of prices are estimated by means of the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which considers the changes in the prices of 12 groups of 315 goods and services.

Only in May, the variation in prices was 0.22%. The products that showed a greater increase in the prices were: automobile, gasoline and urban bus service. On the other hand, potatoes, onions and tourist packages were among those products that registered a drop in prices.

The main effect on the increase of the month came from the group “Transport”, which accounts for 15% of the total of the Index.

The inter-annual variation for the same month is 1.67%. This period is calculated from June 2016 to May this year.

Although increasing, this is the third lowest annual variation in the last 10 years.

The inflation target of the Central Bank for this year is in the range of 2% to 4%.
