Almost 300 cases of mumps in the country, 197 in penal centers

The epidemiological report cut to September 26th confirms 299 cases of mumps in the country. Nearly 200 of the affected are prisoners, and 45 of them are in isolation in jail.

In addition to the vaccination of the inmates and the security personnel, the authorities made the decision to extend the period of the sanitary orders (that restrict the visits) in eight prisons, in order to avoid the contagion of more people.

Mumps is a contagious disease caused by a virus. It spreads through the saliva or mucus of the mouth, nose or throat. It can cause inflammation of the salivary glands, inflammation of the testicles at risk of sterility or even meningitis.
