The first three axes of the Decarbonization Plan promoted by the government of Carlos Alvarado would generate profits for the country for $19.5 billion in 2050. The figure was announced on Tuesday by Alvarado during his speech at the PreCOP25 summit, which takes place in the country from this Tuesday until Thursday.
According to the President, this amount would be obtained as a result of actions related to public, private and freight transport. The estimates indicated by Alvarado were made by the University of Costa Rica, the Inter-American Development Bank and the Tecnológico de Monterrey, according to the governor before the audience of 1500 people attending the PreCOP25.
To achieve this goal, the President said the country will need to make investments of $6 billion, especially to boost the electrification of transport.
That investment will allow us to earn $11.1 billion as a result of lower operating costs. To this we must add the benefits for health issues, with greater productivity,”
said the President.
The National Decarbonization Plan, presented earlier this year by the government reflects the intention of the Executive Power to “transform” the Costa Rican economy through the electrification of transport and the incursion into alternative energy.
The idea is applauded nationally and abroad. However, there are several doubts about the plan that concern representatives of environmental organizations and climate change specialists: hydroelectric power generation and biofuels.
