Alvarado urged the approval of a bill that would penalize child abuse

Legislator Fabricio Alvarado, from Partido de Restauración Nacional, urged the approval of a bill that would penalize child abuse.

The legislator asked the heads of the parliamentary factions and the Board of the Legislative Assembly to support the request to convene the initiative to the extraordinary sessions of the Congress.

The project sets penalties that go from 3 to 10 years in prison, but they would rise from-7-to-12-year sentences if the perpetrator is the minor’s relative.

Alvarado introduced the initiative two years ago, but it has not been approved yet.

The congressman made the request due to a 5-year-old girl’s case, who was tortured by her own relatives in Pérez Zeledón.
