Amazon wants to open physical stores of fresh produce

According to Wall Street Journal, Amazon wants to open small physical stores to sell milk, meat and other fresh and perishable products.
The customers will be able to order nonperishable products through their smartphones or touch screens located in such stores, and the items will be delivered during the day.

The newspaper explained that the stores will be reserved to subscribers of “Fresh” Amazon service, which allows to ask for food delivery in some US cities and London, paying $ 15 a month.

The group also plans to build the drive, a service by which consumers could receive their online orders directly in the trunk of their vehicle.

We do not comment on rumors and speculation,”

simply said a spokesman for the group.

It would not be the first time the online retail giant opens physical stores: last year, it opened its first bookstore in Seattle (Northwest) and has already announced the opening of more bookstores in other US cities.

By strengthening its offensive in the fresh products market, Amazon would put a little more pressure on traditional retailers such as Wal-Mart, which the vast majority of consumers still use to buy food.
