American Expatriate Costa Rica

Amy Zúñiga, a Costa Rican role model

Costa Rican Amy Zúñiga is only 26 years old and she’s been living in Abu Dhabi, The United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the last three months. She controls air traffic in the International Airport of Abu Dhabi. It is currently the only Latin American person who serves in this position in that city.

She tells her story to inspire Costa Ricans to follow their dreams and to explain some things about UAE culture.

Ticos have a lot of talent and if we are confident and we work on what we want, we can achieve our goals,

declared Zúñiga via Skype from one of the most exotic places in the world.

After being chosen for an internship in the UEA in 2014, jobs were offered to her. She went through a series of requirements and in December, 2015 she reached one of her professional dreams.

People often told her it was a madness to work in a country where women are so denigrated, but she claims that it is not like that. She is not forced to dress in a specific way unless she goes to a holy place and women are a treasure in that culture.

She misses her country, but she is happy where she is.

“I want to grow, I want to do my best and take advantage of the opportunities I have. We cannot be afraid of challenges, “concluded  Zúñiga.
