An expansion will improve La Cruz health center services

Near 21 thousand people, who live in La Cruz in Guanacaste, will benefit from the health center’s service expansion.

This expansion is due to workplace and traffic accidents in the area.

According to the Caja Costarricense del Seguro Social (CCSS), emergency service consultations have increased because of the great amount of foreigners that have arrived to the area and demand health care.

María del Rocío Sáenz, CCSS executive director, explained that these expansions will cost 100 million colones and they are expected to begin this year and to end next year.

Home visits are another improvement. They will start within the next six months. This is implemented for those patients that, due to their condition, can’t go to the hospital. To provide this service, the center has an ambulance and 2 pick-up trucks so that specialists and their teams can arrive to patients’ homes.

An issue that needs to be addressed is the amount of people who come and go to Nicaragua because they stay 60 km near the center and CCSS’ staff has to take care of them.
