Animal welfare associations are fed up

Costa Rican, animal welfare associations state that legislators are taking too much time to pass the bill against animal abuse. Therefore, they warn that on August 31st they will demand the Supreme Electoral Court to convene a referendum.

To make that possible, they need the support of 5% of the electoral roll, it means, 161,000 Costa Rican signatures. They already have near 200,000.

According to Juan Carlos Peralta, Association for Animals’ Welfare and Protection spokesman, the fact that the law hasn’t been discussed in the Fourth Chamber is a clear sign that that they want to take a lot of time to pass it and he blames legislator Otto Guevara for this situation.

they haven’t read the law, they haven’t searched information and they haven’t informed people,

stated the animal rescuer.

The Supreme Electoral Court of Costa Rica already has 102,490 signatures and next week it will receive 32,000 more. The organizers of this crusade declare that by August 15th they will count on the quantity required by law to have the possibility of convening a referendum.
