Antonio Álvarez Desanti gives up his legislator’s salary but not his seat

The president of the Legislative Assembly and presidential candidate for the National Liberation Party (PLN) Party, Antonio Álvarez Desanti, gave up his MP salary over the next three months.

This was confirmed by the legislator before his registration for the political grouping in the Liberationist House Jose Figueres Ferrer.

However, Álvarez ruled out leaving his position as President of the Congress because he believes this would complicate the parliamentary work, since they would have to find a replacement when there is only 4 months left of his term.

I want to avoid comments implying that I’m using the office hours to go to Balcón Verde instead of doing my parliamentary work (…) I prefer to avoid such discussion,”

said the legislator, who also denied using his position as springboard to win supporters and claimed that these are very different tasks.

However, he admitted that monitoring the pre-campaign will take time away from him as a legislator.

Álvarez said that if he wins the PLN internal convention, to be held on April 2nd, he will leave the seat to devote himself to the campaign.
