After 35 days of anxiety, uncertainty and fear that he might be dead, this Sunday, Lilian Tintori, the wife of the Venezuelan opponent Leopoldo López, was able to see him in Ramo Verde jail.
Tintori entered the penitentiary center with her children, Leopoldo and Manuela, and on leaving, she gave an interview to the media of her country, saying López was well and thanks for all the effort to free Venezuela from the regime.
López was kept isolated and was not aware of what was happening in his country, so the former TV show hostess told her husband about the demonstrations the opposition has held in recent days.
According to Tintori, López said he now understood why his family was not allowed to visit him, and that the government does not want him to know what is happening in Venezuela.
He said, ‘I’m fine, I’m alive, I’m strong and I’m fine!’ We struggled to see him, we demanded our right to see him… In a normal country, in democracy, we should be able to visit him all the time, but we know that we are not in democracy and we know that Leopoldo is not imprisoned, but kidnapped,”
said Tintori.
The opponent has been imprisoned since 2014, for leading a demonstration that demanded Maduro’s resignation, resulting in 43 fatal victims. He was sentenced to more than 13 years in prison.
