Attention: 85% of schools will resume classes on Monday

On Sunday, the MEP announced that 3,738 schools will reopen tomorrow.

Minister Sonia Marta Mora said that only schools from the 7 cantons on red alert (La Cruz, Upala, Bagaces, Los Chiles, Guatuso and Corredores) will remain closed.

There are another 332 establishments that, for various reasons, will not be able to resume classes either. Parents should visit the Ministry’s site www.mep.go.cr and Facebook page to check the status of their children’s schools.

All educators or administrative staff must report to work. “If any employee has personal problems because they have been affected by Hurricane Otto, they must go to the Municipal Committee or the Regional Directorate to explain their situation.”

Mora also revealed a campaign promoted by the MEP, for each worker to donate 2,000 colones of their Christmas bonus. With this, more than 160 million colones would be raised to help the victims.
