Authorities celebrate decline in scams planned from prisons

The national authorities celebrate that, after a series of operations, complaints of computer scams decreased to 200%. It is believed that most scams are directed from Costa Rican prisons.

This Wednesday, the Deputy Prosecutor against Fraud highlighted the statistics and argues that the decrease responds to an intervention articulated between different institutions.

This reduction responds to the coordinated work of the Deputy Prosecutor’s Office against Fraud, the Ministry of Justice and Peace, the OIJ, financial institutions and telephone operators in the country,”

said the Public Ministry.

As reported by the entity, since last August, a series of strategies that are already bearing fruit have been defined. This is shown by the reduction of complaints in the last two months to 98 in September and 85 in October. The trend that was recorded in the previous months was between 180 and 234 monthly complaints.

The Prosecutor’s Office highlighted the operations carried out by the Penitentiary Police in the different prisons, where there have been the confiscation of cell phones, telephone chips, memory cards and other telephone accessories.
