Authorities think that it is better to amend the Animal Welfare Law

During his electoral campaign, president Luis Guillermo Solís focused on an Animal Welfare Law. However, it faced a setback when the Fourth Chamber declared it was unconstitutional.

Under these circumstances, the Executive preferred not to say much, although authorities consider that the best thing to do is to amend the articles so the law can be passed again and legitimized by the Constitutional Court.

At the Legislative Assembly, it is always easier to reform a bill under such conditions than to start a new one,

declared Minister of the Presidency, Sergio Alfaro.

The law was passed on its first reading by the legislators from the Legislative Assembly and it was sent to the Fourth Chamber for consultation.

Animal lovers have already aassured that a referendum will be held; however, the Supreme Electoral Court has not delivered a ruling on the matter.
