Avianca airlines has announced the suspension of the direct flights from San Jose to Miami, effective Janurary 16th. The airline stressed that the measure comes due to a lack of demand, and is temporary.

Avianca, a Colombian flagged carrier purchased the Central American conglomerate of TACA airlines, and shifted its hub to San Salvador from Juan Santamaria Airport in Costa Rica. The move means that TACA customers will have to make a connecting flight for travel to Miami.
