AyA assures arsenic is no longer a risk

Yamileth Astorga, president of Aqueducts and Sewers (AyA), ensures that the levels of arsenic concentration in the water people from Guanacaste and San Carlos drink are safe for their health, since it is less than 10 micrograms per liter, the maximum allowed by the WHO.

To this date, the institution has purchased 6 arsenic remover plants, which permanently control the input and output of the chemical in the water supplied to the population. They were placed in communities where concentrations of arsenic were important.

Astorga recognized there is always the concern, and explained that the intention is to provide safe water sources, but reiterated there is no health hazard.

What is the ultimate solution? According Astorga, transferring water from other areas will solve the problem. The institution is now working on a project to bring water from Sandillal reservoir to water fountains and taps.
