Bad news! The number of burnt minors would be 400 by the end of the year

Neither the constant calls of attention, nor the campaigns to lower the accidents have resulted. According to the projections of the National Children’s Hospital (HNN), the number of burnt minors would be 400 by the end of the year.

Carlos Siri, director of the Burn Unit, indicated that in 2013 they had the largest number of burned children (more than 400), but in 2015 that figure decreased. However, for this year, there are bad news.

It’s going to be another very bad year in terms of burns: until October, we had 344 and that number rose to 378 in November,

declared the doctor.

On December 2nd, the Burn Unit at the medical center had 3 inpatients, but on December 5th, all stretchers were occupied, with 12 children and there was 1 more in another room for lack of space.

They are small children, under 2 years old. Most of them were scalded with hot liquids,

stated Siri.

Most children are scalded with hot liquids and were burnt with hair straighteners and irons, although there is currently a small child who was burned with electricity.

Siri urged people to take care of children, to take into account that by no means they should be in the kitchen, or play with gunpowder. The projection to close the year is 400, but the goal is not to reach that number.

On December 8th, the HNN will start a campaign so that this year there are not children burned with gunpowder.
