Basic rate rises in the last week of 2016

The basic passive rate (TBP) rose for a second week and just one week before the end of 2016.

The increase published yesterday by the Central Bank corresponds to 5 basis points compared to the figure from last week.

At the current level, the rate is still at the lowest level in the last 8 years. Likewise, the rate is 145 basis points lower than the figure that started 2016.

The shares of long-term loans in colones, such as those intended for housing and vehicles, are usually indexed to movements in the basic rate.

This indicator is calculated based on the rates actually paid by banks, mutuals and cooperatives for all placement periods.

A rise in rates from all intermediaries influenced this week’s increase.
