Bees and fire in vegetation kept firefighters busy

At the end of January 2017, the Fire Department assisted 6,070 emergencies, according to statistics from the institution. Compared to 2016, this figure represents an increase of 4%.

Most emergencies had to do with fires in vegetation (1,102), swarms of bees (945), short circuits (645) and strong winds (279).

Moreover, firefighters also took care of 107 structural fires, 227 snake rescue cases, 87 incendiary vehicles and 275 emergencies with liquefied petroleum gas.

After the monthly statistics, four fatal victims of fire were already recorded. The last event occurred last Saturday in San Francisco de Heredia.

During 2016, 18 people died because of a fire. Of these, 12 were adults and 6 were children.
