Members of Partido de Liberación Nacional (PLN), president of Congress Antonio Álvarez, and legislators Ronny Monge and Julio Rojas, presented an initiative to promote pedestrians and cyclists’ rights by including the recognition of non-motorized mobility, such as bicycles, skates and skateboards into the Law of Traffic on Public Roads and Road Safety .

The bill includes measures for better supervision from the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT) on the quality of pedestrian and cycling infrastructures, as well as its duty to establish programs to raise awareness about the rights of pedestrians and users of non-motorized mobility options.

It also reinforces MOPT’s responsability to promote recreational cycling routes.
