Boat was adrift for three days befor the NCG rescued the crew

The National Coast Guard rescued a fishing boat and its three crew members on Friday. The incident was reported at 5:49 p.m. on Friday via email from 911.

The captain of the ship, Rándall Serrano León, indicated in the message that the boat had been drifting for three days because part of the engine was broken.

At the time of the report, the ship was located 13 nautical miles from Cabo Matapalo, Osa Pennsula, with four crew members on board. A patrol boat was immediately sent to the site.

At 8:36 p.m. on Friday the National Coast Guard was able to board the ship Cielo Azul, which had moved four nautical miles from the reported location. There, it was verified that the crew, as well as the boat, had the necessary permits.

The crew were identified as: Rándall Serrano León, Bayron Serrano León, Alexánder Siles Gómez and Armando Luna Vega, all Costa Rican nationals and in good health.

The ship was towed by patrolman Juan Rafael Mora to a safe place in Puerto Jiménez for proper repair.
