The government of Jair Bolsonaro, in Brazil, publicly contradicted President Carlos Alvarado.
A few hours after the Costa Rican president denied that Costa Rica and Brazil were jointly seeking votes for the two positions chosen on Thursday at the United Nations Human Rights Council, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil (Itamaraty) called for a vote in favor of both countries to prevent one of the positions being won by the Nicolás Maduro regime in Venezuela.
On Thursday at the last minute, Alvarado himself denied they were teaming up, amid questions of political sectors and his own ethical guarantors.
Criticism against the alliance of Costa Rica and Brazil came because Foreign Minister Manuel Ventura said on October 7th that both nations would seek votes together for the election that takes place this Thursday in New York.
On Wednesday in his weekly attention to the press, Alvarado contradicted Ventura and said his statements “were extrapolated.” The ethical guarantors and other sectors questioned this alliance with Brazil claiming, among other things, that the Bolsonaro government contradicts the ideals of a respectful, inclusive and non-discriminatory democracy.
