Candidates bet on economists for presidential formula

This weekend, four of the most prominent political parties in the country defined their presidential formula to face the elections of February 4th, 2018.

Each candidate presented their candidates to the vice presidency with a common aspect: they all bet on an economist within that formula.

Antonio Álvarez opted for Minister of Finance, Edgar Ayales. Carlos Alvarado, from the ruling party, selected Epsy Campbell, legislator and economist by profession. The Social Christian Unity Party chose Edna Camacho, former deputy minister of finance and one of the most renowned economists in the country. Finally, Otto Guevara, from the Libertarian Movement chose Franz Tattenbach Capra.

Why economists? The economic and fiscal situation that the country is going through is not ideal and in the years to come it will become a priority, or so they claim.

We know that a very difficult stage is coming, where the incoming government will receive an indebtedness never imagined, and we need a person who knows all the management of the issue,”

said Antonio Álvarez.

According to the political analyst Claudio Alpízar, the most solid formula presented was that of PUSC.

In addition to the economic bet that each of the candidates made in their formula, they completed it with people of different specialties who are related to the proposed government plans.

The PLN decided to include Victoria Gamboa Ross, a social activist, journalist and political scientist who has always been linked to social causes. She is the founder and president of the Anna Ross Foundation.

For PUSC, Piza chose Max Umaña, a civil engineer with vast experience who will help the candidate in his dream of building a metro in the country, which is one of the promises of the social-Christian campaign.

Carlos Alvarado chose for the PAC the unionist Marvin Rodríguez, who was general secretary of the Union of Educators. Rodríguez is an educator and will focus his work on improving this area in the country.

Finally, in the Libertario, Guevara chose the journalist Viviam Quesada in his formula.
