Cane producers receive 210 million colones in relief assistance

The Ministry of Agriculture began to deliver supplies to 475 cane farmers, affected by the emergency rains in 2015. These workers, mainly from Turrialba, will receive 210 million colones.

The delivery project is coordinated by the National Commission of Risk Prevention and Emergency Response (CNE), Turrialba’s Local Emergency Committee and the Chamber of Cane farmers.

We are sure that you will make good use of the products you are receiving. We want to be very emphatic: all products are for beneficiaries to use in plantations, to have better production yields and higher family income level,”

said Felipe Arguedas, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Livestock.

Last month, coffee farmers were the ones who benefited from this investment plan. Three hundred producers from Turrialba were handed 400 million colones in supplies.

The National Emergency Commission estimated using 75 billion colones to assist farmers affected in Limón, Turrialba and Sarapiquí and meet the needs of more than 11,000 people affected by heavy rains in 2015.
