CCSS and Health Ministry debate on who must pay for vaccines

According to Roberto Arroba Tijerino, coordinator of Immunization and technical secretary of the National Commission on Vaccination and Epidemiology, “when the Ministry of Health gets asked who must pay for vaccines, they answer the CCSS must do it. And when the CCSS gets asked the same question, they answer it’s the Ministry’s duty.”

This dispute is expected to be solved with a consultation request sent to the Procuraduría General de la República by the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS).

Recently, the commission approved the introduction of rotavirus vaccine, to prevent gastroenteritis cases.

In addition, they’re studying the introduction of the vaccine against human papillomavirus (HPV), to prevent cervical cancer.
